Solar Cells

Several techniques are used to produce devices that convert light into electricity. There is always some balance to be maintained within how well something works, and how much does it costs to produce, and the same is concerned with the solar energy. One of its use is in solar cells. They are used to change sunlight into electricity. Technically they are known as photo voltaic cell. A photo voltaic cell is a product that creates electricity through light. They can generate electricity from any type of light source its main objective is to collect solar energy from the sun. Photons hit the surface of the solar cells and absorbed by semiconductor like silicon. These photons react with the electrons in the atom and thus produce the desired amount of energy. A group of solar cells that are linked together are known as a module. They form solar panels. The main reason for using silicon is because it is available in abundant on earth after oxygen. They can be used on several places and in various applications like solar watches, lights, calculator, flash lights etc. There are two types of solar cells. First is Crystalline cells and second are “thin-film” cells. Thin-films use chemical compound to semiconduct whereas crystalline cells use crystalline silicon. Thin-film solar cells are much cheaper than crystalline cells. They are less efficient than crystalline cells.

Renewable Energy Sources

Renewable energy is the one that comes from the natural resources like sunlight, wind, rain, tides etc. they are naturally replenished and don't need to put efforts in it. The renewable energy sources are solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy, geothermal energy etc. they are very advantageous for us. They are eco-friendly, are pollution free, require less maintenance cost and these are almost free of cost for us. There setup requires one-time cost. The various uses of these energy sources are unlimited in number. Thus, everybody prefers them. In fact, all are encouraged to “Go Green”; thus, they are shifting towards this environment friendly sources. They will remain with us for the lifetime that is why they are preferred by all. They can be used as solar energy in solar panel or solar heating or solar lighting. They can be used to generate electricity on a small scale very efficiently. The wind energy and tidal energy are also used for the production of electricity. They can do this task on both small scale as well as large scale. They are helpful because the other sources like fossil fuels produce a lot of pollution while generating electricity. Renewable energy sources are preferred due to several reasons as they are clean, safe, versatile and pollution free. These sources of energy are ecologically sound.
